Right-Midfield: Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal)
It was an improbable and brilliant comeback from Arsenal at Bournemouth, but nobody bore the brunt of disappointment more than Alexis Sánchez following the game, who will have known that two points lost at the Vitality thanks to their poor opening hour of the game may prove detrimental to their title ambitions.
Nevertheless, it takes nothing away from the Chilean’s performance, and he helped catalyse Arsenal’s recovery, his exceptional movement enabling him to operate in much more time and space with the ball, and he made an incisive run between Steve Cook and Simon Francis to net his 13th goal in 20 Premier League appearances this season- matching his tally in 30 games last season- with Arsenal’s first effort on target from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross to launch the beginning of the grandstand comeback.
Centre-Midfield: James Morrison (West Bromwich Albion)
A difficult call. Ross Barkley and Charlie Adam were both tremendous in the centre-midfield position for their respective clubs, but James Morrison takes the plaudits after a classy performance against Hull. He was instrumental in helping run the Baggies’ midfield, with 87% of his passes finding their intended target before putting the gloss on his individual performance with a fine finish, turning home from ten yards to put the game beyond doubt with just over a quarter of an hour remaining.
The Scot has been a star-turn in Tony Pulis’ team since being reinstated into the side, and if he continues with his red hot run of form, the Albion machine can only keep on rolling in this wonderful season they are having.
Left-Midfield: Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur)
Another difficult choice after Matt Phillips and Marcus Rashford both excelled in the position against Hull and West Ham for their clubs, but the jersey goes to Christian Eriksen by virtue of his classy performance against the league leaders. He was a constant menace for the Blues, running the flanks and getting into pockets of space on the edge of the area between the defence and the midfield to enable him yo pick passes through the Chelsea back-line.
His movement and quality of delivery enabled him to craft Dele Alli’s two goals, two inch-perfect crosses coming in from the right twice found the head of the England international either side of the break to breach Chelsea’s seemingly impregnable defence and ensure their club record winless run ground to a halt at 13. It seems such a number remains an unlucky one in this case for the Blues, and the curse was brought down by a spellbinding performance from Alli, and from his provider, Eriksen.
