Right-Forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
Sergio Aguero has scored 33 goals in his past 34 Premier League appearances for Manchester City, which says a great deal about his overall game. The Argentine is a goalscorer, and he was as potent as ever at Turf Moor, with a sumptuous brace to topple strugglers Burnley.
Aguero undoubtedly adds the potent edge to Guardiola’s Manchester City side that they so heavily rely on at present, and if the Citizens are to achieve something this season, there can be no doubt that he’ll be at the heart of it.
Centre-Forward: Alvaro Negredo (Middlesbrough)
It’s been a frustrating few weeks for Negredo at Middlesbrough, with Aitor Karanka using the former Sevilla, Manchester City and Valencia man as a lone striker. Happy as he was with Negredo’s work rate in the role, the manager had highlighted his lack of goals, but he put that problem to bed with a wonderfully taken brace at the King Power Stadium against Leicester.
His first took a helpful deflection on its way into the top right corner, but his second was just sensational, hitting a first-time volley right footed across Ron-Robert Zieler andinto the corner of the net from an acute angle to silence the home of the champions.
Left-Forward: Fernando Llorente (Swansea City)
The former Athletic Bilbao and Juventus frontman had been dropped by manager Bob Bradley for last week’s match at Everton, but despite suggesting the forward was lacking in fitness the American threw Llorente into the fray in Swansea’s match-up with Crystal Palace.
He rewarded his manager’s faith with only his second and third goals for the club since moving to South Wales, both coming in stoppage time to twist the game on its head, having already laid the ball on a plate with a cushioned header for Leroy Fer to score.
With two goals and an assist to change Bradley and Swansea’s fortunes with a kickstart to their campaign here, Llorente was duly given the Man of the Match award. Quite remarkably, he’d only been on the pitch for 30 minutes.
