Centre-Forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
In the midst of City’s six game winless run, questions were being asked about the Argentinian, but he was back to his potent best on Saturday with a delightful double to kill the game off early on, which will provide much encouragement ahead of City’s home match in the Champions League against Barcelona.
What has recently come under debate is whether or not Sergio Aguero falls into the same world class bracket as players such as Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He is a regular for Argentina and scores on a regular basis for his club, and now has six in his last four away games in the Premier League. It would be hard to make a case for Aguero not being in the same breadth.
Centre-Forward: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
It had long been suggested that the way to go for Arsenal would be to play the Chilean forward in a central role and build the rest of the team around him. It took over a season for Wenger to cotton onto the idea, but now that Sanchez is featuring in the role, he has been scoring goals and simply hasn’t looked back. Granted he was moulded into a replacement striker in Olivier Giroud’s stead, but he has been such a revelation there that it has given Arsenal’s attack a fresh dimension.
In his past eight appearances in the league, his five goals and three assists have ensured he has played a part in an average of a goal per game. The healthy conundrum for Wenger now will be whether or not to persist with Sanchez in a central role or to reinstate Giroud and ush Sanchez back out wide. As far as selection headaches go however, it’s the best kind for a manager to have.
