The little Brazilian was at his potent best for Liverpool once again as they tormented Hull City at Anfield, laying on two assists for Adam Lallana and Sadio Mané before capping off a splendid individual performance with a wonderful long-range strike. He has now had a hand in five Liverpool goals in his last three matches, with two goals and three assists, and has scored more goals from outside the box than any other Premier League player since January 2015.

The Brazilian magician is undoubtedly a key component in Klopp’s side, and although they coped well without him against Leicester, Liverpool mustn’t underestimate the importance of keeping him fit.

Centre-Midfield: Harry Arter (AFC Bournemouth)

Bournemouth picked up back-to-back home wins after their victory over Everton, and it was Republic of Ireland international Harry Arter who was the midfield engine of the Cherries’ latest victory. The 26-year-old had to win his personal battles in midfield with Idrissa Gueye and Ross Barkley, and he kept both quiet and took the game by the scruff of the neck, relentlessly pressing in midfield to help disrupt Everton’s fluidity.

No Bournemouth player put in more challenges than Arter, with several of them deep in his own half when the hosts had to dig in near the end, and having hit the post from a swerving effort already in the game, he picked up Junior Stanislas in a pocket of space whose 25-yard thunderbolt was enough to win the game. It was always going to be a game won by the side who could take control of the midfield, and Arter ran the show.

Centre-Midfield: Paul Pogba (Manchester United)

After being criticised for some anonymous showings so far this season, French international Paul Pogba went some way towards proving why he commanded a world record £89 million transfer fee during his performance against Leicester. He thrived in midfield in the absence of Wayne Rooney, and often roamed forward as United’s midfield engine to link play alongside Juan Mata who took over in the number 10 role.

He played a wonderfully disguised chip over the Leicester defence from which Zlatan Ibrahimovic volleyed over the crossbar- a goal of the month if not goal of the season contender had it gone in- and his snapshot which had Ron-Robert Zieler scurrying across his goal to palm to safety was another warning shot fired. The Foxes didn’t heed, and Pogba punished with a neat one-two with Mata for the Spaniard to score, before Pogba helped himself to his first United goal after heading in from a corner to put the hosts beyond reach.

Left-Midfield: Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur)

Four goals in two games away from home for South Korea international Son Heung-Min says everything about his form of late. In his last six Premier League games for Spurs, he had scored six goals and assisted once, and after his delightful double at Stoke you could be forgiven for thinking it wouldn’t get any better. His brace at Middlesbrough however was just as, if not even more emphatic.

Spurs supporters were swift in venting their fury when Nacer Chadli was sold to West Bromwich Albion, but South Korean Son is thriving in his absence and finally beginning to look the sort of player they thought they’d signed when they paid £25 million to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
