Sergio Aguero: The most in-form striker in the Premier League made his intentions clear from the early minutes, taking down a Yaya Touré pass on his chest before swivelling and striking on goal in one movement, drawing a good save out of the Villa ‘keeper. His first of the two goals to his name against Villa certainly had more than a fortunate whiff about it, as Micah Richards’ attempted clearance cannoned off the Argentine and into Guzan’s unguarded net. His second required far more skill and was reminiscent of Manchester City of old as Aguero and Silva combined to great effect, eventually unleashing City’s number 10 into space where he made no mistake with a near-post effort. But for a penalty which clattered against the foot of the post, he would have notched his seventh Manchester City hat-trick that his performance arguably deserved.

Josh King: The Norwegian international created two chances against Newcastle United on Saturday and was a real live-wire for the visitors from the south coast, beating an opponent five times and forming a profitable partnership with January addition Benik Afobe. Josh King’s work rate in advanced areas of the pitch was fantastic and he gave The Magpies’ defenders no time to settle on the ball, making three tackles in the opposition half to try and spark an attack in dangerous areas. This set up a platform for Howe’s Bournemouth, who took the opportunity to exert their dominance. King had a hand in The Cherries’ opener, with his fizzed ball across the box being diverted beyond Rob Elliot by a beleaguered Steven Taylor. The forward also got his name on the score-sheet too, producing a sharp turn on the edge of the box before finishing emphatically into the roof of the net, an incident that sparked a vociferous chorus of boos all around St. James’ Park.
