Premier League rivals interest in Lautaro Martinez could be bad news for Arsenal

Premier League rivals interest in Lautaro Martinez could be bad news for Arsenal

Arsenal are facing a battle to keep hold of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

One of Arsenal’s big concerns ahead of the next transfer window revolves around star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon international is out of contract in 2021 and attempts to re-sign him have proven fruitless.

With that in mind, Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the player. As reported by The Telegraph, the striker is considered one of Barca’s top transfer targets to replace the aging Luis Suarez at the Nou Camp. SPORT is suggesting that the Gunners would want a fee in the region of £50 million for their main goal-getter.

With Barcelona tempting away, it is always going to be hard for Arsenal to keep hold of Aubameyang. However, this week it looked as though Arsenal might be in luck. According to Sky Sports, Barcelona’s main transfer targets in attack this summer are a returning Neymar and Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez.

If the pair end up at Barcelona, there is no doubt that Arsenal might have a better chance at keeping hold of Aubameyang.

Which is why Chelsea’s apparent transfer plans could prove a big problem for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta.

SPORT is reporting that Chelsea, as well as Manchester City, have made superior financial offers for the services of Martinez. The Express is suggesting Chelsea could offer Lautaro £169,000-a-week and match his £102 million release clause.

Were Chelsea to hijack Barcelona’s apparent plans for Lautaro Martinez to be their Suarez replacement, it would leave the Catalans hunting for an alternative. At which point, Aubameyang might look like a promising proposition once again.

Arsenal will no doubt be hoping that Barcelona’s current transfer plans come together. If their London rivals throw a spanner in the works it could prove a big blow to their hopes of Aubameyang remaining a Gunner.
