Leeds United’s loss to Sheffield United was damaging as it cost them a place in the top two and saw star defender Pontus Jansson suffer an injury.

But one rare positive from the game was the return of Jack Clarke, who came off the bench after a spell out with illness.

Clarke is an exciting young talent at Leeds and one that they hope to keep for many years. But the Premier League big boys are circling.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were among the numerous clubs trying to sign Jack Clarke back in the January transfer window, as per The Daily Mail.

It is no surprise given his form this season. The skilful 18-year-old has weighed in with two goals and two assists during his debut campaign in the Championship.

But Leeds face a battle to keep him for the long-term future if they fail to win promotion to the Premier League.

Clarke’s natural progression would see him outgrow Leeds unless they can return to the top flight after a lengthy hiatus in the Football League.

Winning promotion this season would be Leeds’ best chance of keeping Clarke and staying down could lead to his departure.

Leeds have a weakened bargaining stance if they remain a Championship club but Clarke would surely love to play Premier League football for his boyhood club if they go up.
