Premier League announce who's going to be referee and VAR for West Ham's clash with Newcastle on Sunday

The Premier League have announced who will be the referee for West Ham United’s clash with Newcastle this Sunday.

There was VAR controversy in both clubs’ most recent fixtures over the weekend and it cost them both points on the day.

The Hammers were denied a 2-2 draw at London rivals Chelsea because of an incredibly soft decision to award a foul against Jarrod Bowen on Edouard Mendy.

And Eddie Howe’s men could have beaten Crystal Palace 1-0, but a foul was harshly awarded on the visiting goalkeeper in the move which saw Tyrick Mitchell put through his own net.

West Ham vs Newcastle referee confirmed

The referee on Sunday afternoon at the London Stadium will be Craig Pawson.

Running the line as his assistants will be Marc Perry and Scott Ledger, while the fourth official will be Anthony Taylor.

Paul Tierney was the man at the centre of the controversy at Old Trafford last weekend, as Gabriel Martinelli’s first half goal was disallowed.

He will be assisted on VAR by Adam Nunn, as everyone hopes that this weekend will be a better one in terms of refereeing decisions.

We really don’t want to be talking about VAR as having such a big impact on decisions, as this has been a hugely entertaining Premier League season.

European football is kicking back in for West Ham now, and they have to juggle those commitments with trying to rise up the table.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have given Manchester City and Liverpool some scares and are looking to generate consistency in the other matches as well.
