The Premier League continues to produce memorable matches for big stars, but for every one that a player wants to remember, there is one they’d much rather forget.
Such is the brutal nature of the division that even the best of players will be put under pressure and will falter in key moments.
One Premier League star struggled even more than the rest over a weekend littered with mistakes up and down the country.
So much so that they joined an exclusive club in the division, headed up by Jamie Carragher and five others.

Maxime Esteve breaks silence on double own goal in Man City vs Burnley
With plenty of Premier League action playing out over the weekend, there were quite a few difficult individual performances.
But perhaps none of them quite came close to Burnley star Maxime Esteve and his troubles.
The centre-back scored two own goals as his side went on to lose 5-1 to Manchester City in a tough encounter.
It means Esteve is now the sixth player in Premier League history to score two own goals in one match, the most seen so far.
It’s a club that was headed up by Jamie Carragher, who was the first to do so in the Premier League era, back in 1999.
Speaking out on his tough time, Esteve took to social media to discuss the defeat, stating: “Definitely the worst match of my life.
“We share and experience wonderful moments, but we have to accept the more difficult ones and learn from them to ensure they don’t happen again.
“Thank you for your messages of support and once again, I’m sorry.”
It was certainly a tough afternoon for the defender, who will now be looking to bounce back in the coming weeks.

Which Premier League players have scored two own goals in one match
With history made yet again, Maxime Esteve becomes the sixth player in the Premier League era to put the ball in the back of their own net twice in the same match.
Jamie Carragher was the first, which came back in 1999, during Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to rivals Manchester United.
| Player | Season | Match |
|---|---|---|
| Jamie Carragher | 1999/2000 | Liverpool 2-3 Man United |
| Michael Proctor | 2002/03 | Sunderland 1-3 Charlton |
| Jonthan Walters | 2012/13 | Stoke 0-4 Chelsea |
| Wout Faes | 2022/23 | Liverpool 2-1 Leicester |
| Craig Dawson | 2024/25 | Everton 4-0 Wolves |
| Maxime Esteve | 2025/26 | Man City 5-1 Burnley |
Perhaps the worst of the bunch was for forward Jonathan Walters back in 2013.
The striker scored two own goals before proceeding to miss a penalty in Stoke’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea.
Michael Proctor, Wout Faes and Craig Dawson all precede Esteve in the list too.
