Glasgow Rangers are in Old Firm derby action at Ibrox today, with Steven Gerrard’s charges hoping to extend their already sizeable lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and deal a huge blow to their rivals in the process.
Victory at Ibrox would widen the lead over Celtic to 19 points, ensuring that Rangers would maintain a double-figure lead even if Neil Lennon’s charges win all three of their games in hand.
In terms of fitness news, the Gers are without Scott Arfield, who was forced off during their win against Hibernian with an ankle injury, while Ryan Jack and Nikola Katic remain on the sidelines too.
So, who could Gerrard pick in his starting XI for the big game?
Allan McGregor is likely to remain in goal, while the back four should remain mostly the same as it was against St Mirren, though one potential change in defence could come in the shape of Leon Balogun replacing Filip Helander.
Although the £3.5million “leader” was impressive on his return against the Buddies, the Nigeria international has done just as well over the course of the season, and could offer Rangers more freedom from the back.
No such dilemmas over Borna Barisic, Connor Goldson and James Tavernier, three of the first names on Gerrard’s teamsheet week in, week out.
In midfield, Arfield’s continued absence makes Gerrard’s selection in that area relatively straightforward – a three of Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and Joe Aribo.
And while Ryan Kent’s form has slipped, resulting in a spot on the bench last time out, we reckon the £7million star will return to the front three, lining up alongside Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.
