Predicted Newcastle XI to face Wolves

Newcastle United take on Wolves in their sixth Premier League game of the season, and a victory for the Magpies will take the club up into the top half.

Steve Bruce’s side have made an up and down start to 2020/21, and currently sit 14th on seven points.

Standing in their way of a third league victory is a Wolves side which has been quietly impressive in terms of results so far.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have three wins and three clean sheets to their name so far, but arguably still have a couple of gears to go up in terms of performance.

Karl Darlow’s fitness will be ‘down to the wire’ for the game according to Bruce (official website), after he took a painful blow against Manchester United, but hopefully for Newcastle he shakes off the issue. If he plays he could be protected by a back four of Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez and Jamal Lewis.

In midfield, Jonjoe Shelvey is reportedly out with a groin injury and Isaac Hayden is a doubt but could recover in time. Perhaps Bruce will give the fans what they want and start Miguel Almiron at the tip of a diamond, with Hayden at the base.

Out wide, Ryan Fraser is surely now up to speed and needs to start to inject a bit of creativity and spark into the side, with Allan Saint-Maximin to play from the left.

The Scot should come in at the expense of Jeff Hendrick, who is adored by Bruce but isn’t a winger.

If there is to be a diamond, then perhaps Joelinton will be asked to play with Callum Wilson in attack.
