Predicted Liverpool X to face Manchester City today

Liverpool take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League in their final game before the next international break.

The Reds are currently second in the table, with Southampton having gone top after beating Newcastle United on Friday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side can go three points clear of the Saints though with victory.

In their way though stand Manchester City, who are trying to get their season going after a sluggish start.

Klopp faces something of a selection headache for this one, especially in attack.

Alisson will start netween the sticks, and it’s likely the defence will be Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Andy Robertson.

Matip was an unused substitute against Atalanta and could return to the side to partner Gomez, with Klopp probably unlikely to throw either Nat Phillips or Rhys Williams in against such a dangerous side.

In midfield, Thiago has been confirmed as unavailable, so Gini Wijnaldum could feature alongside Jordan Henderson.

It would be no surprise to see £140,000-a-week star James Milner (Spotrac) handed a start against his former club to complete the trio.

City will likely have the lion’s share of possession and Klopp could well select the workhorse trio that has served him so well down the years.

In attack, Roberto Firmino will probably come back into the fold after making way for Diogo Jota in midweek, with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane either side.

Jota bagged a brilliant hat-trick and is definitely knocking on the door, and would probably be most Liverpool fans’ pick.

If it was anyone else this weekend he might be a shoo-in to start.

But Klopp loves Firmino, who actually has a pretty good record against City. The South American will need a big performance if indeed selected at the Portuguese’s expense.
