Predicted Chelsea XI v Aston Villa: Werner and Chilwell both start

Chelsea face Aston Villa tonight looking to progress in the Carabao Cup. The Blues are flying high in the Premier League and Thomas Tuchel could shuffle his pack.

The Blues are yet to taste defeat during 2021/22 and under the French manager, they look a really dominant force.

Chelsea thrashed Tottenham at the weekend. Goals from Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger saw the Blues emerge from their London derby with bragging rights.

On Saturday, Tuchel’s men face Manchester City in what looks like a massive game.

Although the Chelsea boss will want to beat Aston Villa this evening, it won’t be deemed a priority.

Here we look at the somewhat makeshift team that Tuchel may call upon against Dean Smith’s men.

Predicted Chelsea XI v Aston Villa:

In goal and back three

Kepa Arrizabalaga looks set to keep his place between the sticks having kept a clean sheet on Sunday.

It could be changes aplenty at the back though. Reece James could line up at centre-back, with Trevoh Chalobah earning more minutes too.

Malang Sarr was on the bench against Zenit in the Champions League last week and he could earn his first Blues start this evening.

Wing-backs and midfield

Ben Chilwell hasn’t seen much football recently and looks certain to be handed a starting berth.

The £190,000-a-week star lost his England place at Euro 2020 and he’s fallen behind Marcos Alonso at Stamford Bridge.

On the right, Callum Hudson-Odoi could try and build his fitness up with a rare outing for the Blues.

Saul Niguez and Ruben-Loftus cheek could form an unlikely pairing in the middle of the park, as Tuchel takes a look at his options.

In attack

A little tweak in attack could see the Chelsea boss utilise both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

The 45-time Germany international has fallen behind Lukaku in the reckoning and he’ll be desperate to grasp his opportunity.

Behind the front two Hakim Ziyech should get a run-out, with Kai Havertz and Mason Mount both likely to earn rests.

Here is how Chelsea’s team could look this evening:
