Predicted Celtic starting XI tonight: £2m man returns as 'tireless' 23-year-old drops out
Celtic return to Scottish Premiership action tonight having secured the Quadruple Treble at the weekend but a long way off the top of the table.
Neil Lennon’s Hoops were in Scottish Cup final action at the weekend and saw off Hearts to triumph in the rescheduled 2019-20 competition.
It wasn’t easy for Celtic, however, who relinquished a two-goal lead to their Championship opponents and were then pegged back in extra time.
The Bhoys prevailed in the ensuing penalty shootout to get their hands on the trophy, but despite the massive achievement, questions remain over Lennon’s suitability for the job.
At present, Celtic are 16 points adrift of leaders Rangers, with hopes of a tenth title in a row diminishing by the week.
Up next for the Hoops is Ross County at Parkhead and, after being knocked out of the League Cup by the Premiership’s bottom side, Lennon and co will want to make amends.
So, who could Lennon name in the Celtic XI for tonight’s game?
Conor Hazard should continue in goal – although the 22-year-old made errors in the cup final, he redeemed himself in the penalty shootout.
Kristoffer Ajer has played at right-back recently but, given Shane Duffy’s knock, should move back into central defence alongside Christopher Jullien.
On the flanks, Jeremie Frimpong and Diego Laxalt should be recalled after starting the cup final on the bench, with Greg Taylor dropping out.
The 23-year-old – previously described by Lennon as “tireless” – put in a good display against Hearts, but it’s unlikely to see past the Uruguay ace coming back.
With Scott Brown also recovering from a knock, Lennon could bring Ismaila Soro back in, the £2million man having impressed in recent weeks.
The front four, meanwhile, is likely to remain the same – Ryan Christie, David Turnbull and Mohamed Elyounoussi just behind Odsonne Edouard.
