Pre-season loss shows why Gerrard must sign 12-capped magician, Rangers fans should be demanding him - TBR View
Pre-season results are often easy to overblow, but for Rangers, their 1-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers was a surprise. Largely to how poorly the Scottish giants performed.
Just five days after an easy but unremarkable win over Patrick Thistle, the Glasgow giants put on a performance to forget as Steven Gerrard returned to Merseyside to face a side which last season finished seventh in the fourth-tier of English football.
Rangers pre-season form shows signings are needed
Indeed, results will improve when pre-season swings into full gear and new signings are fully integrated into the squad. But for Rangers, the performance against Tranmere showed that they need something extra in the squad, mainly in midfield.
And Zinedine Ferhat could be perfect for Rangers.
Rangers have already made three signings this summer, yet Ferhat could improve the Scottish giants greatly.
And supporters should be demanding that the club add the 12-time Algerian international to the team this window.
As stats from WhoScored show, the 28-year-old is creatively a solid player. Ferhat registered ten assists last campaign and averaged 1.5 key passes per game, better numbers than the likes of Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis.
Indeed, extra creativity in the central areas could aid Rangers in building on from their immense goal-scoring season last campaign, where the majority of Gerrard’s goals came from set-pieces and the flanks. And Ferhat could be the ideal player to carry this baton.
The Algerian midfielder was impressive last season for a side which were fell down to Ligue 2. And in a squad surrounded by great attacking talents like Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi and Alfredo Morelos, Ferhat would excel in both Scotland and Europe with Gerrard’s side.
