Rangers are ready to battle bitter rivals Celtic for Wigan Athletic playmaker Nick Powell this month, according to the Scottish Sun.
The former Manchester United man is out of contract at the end of the season, which means he is free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with clubs outside of England this month.
And Celtic reportedly made first move to try and bring the midfielder north of the border but Rangers are willing to match that offer and add his flair to their own ranks.
The Old Firm rivals reportedly face competition from RB Leipzig and Brighton – which may complicate matters somewhat – but an intriguing transfer battle may lay ahead.
Powell is an exceptional talent, who is capable of outstanding creativity when he is fit and confident, but has struggled to produce that on a regular basis throughout his career.
He currently shares a dressing room at Wigan with another man who has similar traits – Josh Windass – whose attitude and inconsistency saw him struggle to earn the popularity of the Gers supporters.
Powell is a similar character – he walks to the beat of his own drum – and that could frustrate and enthrall the Ibrox faithful in equal measure.
