Potentially losing both Gueye and Gomes would cripple Everton next season

Everton could seriously struggle next season if they lose both Andre Gomes and Idrissa Gueye.

The Toffees have had an erratic season during Marco Silva’s first year in charge, but arguably their two main constants have been their two central midfielders.

Gueye was been typically brilliant doing the defensive side of things, while loan signing Gomes has provided a technical spark alongside his Senegalese teammate.

The pair work well together, and arguably make up Everton’s strongest area of the whole team.

It is therefore a concern that both players are not guaranteed to be Everton players for 2019/2020, with Gueye ‘dreaming’ of playing for Paris Saint-Germain (L’Equipe), and Gomes likely to be the subject of interest from a number of other clubs.

TBR’s view

Gueye and Gomes have been the two shining lights for Everton in 2018/19.

Gueye’s tenacity perfectly complements Gomes’ elegance.

If PSG managed to succeed in signing the man they targeted in January, and another club poached Gomes from Barcelona, then Everton could suffer massively.

The pair give the Toffees a good spine. If both players were to leave then it could leave Everton further adrift of the top six. Silva hinted after the win over West Ham that he really wants to keep hold of Gomes (The Liverpool Echo), and has previously stated his desire to see Gueye remain (The Daily Mail).

Silva has a job on to try and keep both at Goodison Park – but doing so could be the best business he’ll do all summer.
