Possible Spurs blow as report shares Real Madrid’s Eder Militao stance

Tottenham Hotspur may have received a blow if they were weighing up reigniting their interest in Eder Militao this summer, with Spanish outlet Defensa Central reporting that Real Madrid want to give him one more year at the Bernabeu.

It has been a tough season for the 23-year-old. He has only made four appearances in La Liga, while he has featured for little more than 90 minutes in the Champions League.

Those issues led to speculation about his future in January. According to AS, Spurs were interested in the winter window having also looked in the summer.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham reignite their interest further down the line. But given that they have reportedly been keen in the last two windows, it would perhaps be no surprise if they did indeed keep him on their radar.

However, it appears that Madrid are not ready to write Militao off yet. According to Defensa Central, the club want to give the Brazil international one more year.

It is claimed that Zinedine Zidane agrees with that stance. It is felt that Militao still boasts huge potential.

Interestingly, the report adds that a loan move is not out of the question. But any team hoping to complete a permanent deal will seemingly have to break the bank.

TBR View: Spurs may eye defender this summer, but Militao loan unlikely to appeal

Jose Mourinho is yet to really settle on a centre-back pairing this season. So it would perhaps be no surprise if Tottenham did indeed want to sign a centre-back this summer.

However, Real’s stance on Militao will surely not make a move appealing to Spurs fans.

Madrid clearly rate him highly. They paid £43 million to sign him (via AS). And they are not prepared to cash in despite an incredibly tough season.

But Spurs supporters are unlikely to want a temporary fix after a difficult campaign of their own – particularly if the player providing that temporary fix will go into the season with little momentum.

Perhaps Mourinho may reignite his interest once again. But it would certainly be a roll of the dice based on this latest report.
