Former Arsenal striker, Kevin Campbell, highlighted young winger Bukayo Saka as one of the players who is showing the way at the moment.

Campbell was watching from the sidelines as the Gunners once again endured a disappointing night against Southampton last night.

Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang breaking his scoring duck, Arsenal couldn’t quite get the win and had to settle for a point against an in-form Southampton side.

And Campbell, speaking to Amazon Prime (via Goal), believes the players need to step up to the plate more, highlighting Saka as an example for the rest of the squad to follow.

“A lot of people are questioning Arteta but I don’t, I’m questioning the players. Saka is positive, he picks the ball up and drives. When you commit defenders, opportunities open for the main men.

“So many senior players are struggling for form that Arteta has to juggle his squad. He’s got no-one he can rely on really apart from a young lad.”

Saka, one of the team’s lowest earners on a reported £30k-a-week, has been impressive enough for the Gunners this term and has shown his versatility in the different systems Arteta has deployed.

But, as Campbell states, he is being let down by more senior members, with the likes of Aubameyang, David Luiz, and Granit Xhaka among those coming in for criticism.

Arsenal need to take some positives from last night and at least in Bukayo Saka, they have one of the country’s top talents.

Saka has been excellent, despite his tender age. He is, as Campbell says, showing the way but he can’t do it on his own.
