Portugal and Germany qualify for the Knock-Out Stages - Euro 2012 Matchday 10

Germany and Portugal booked their places in the UEFA Euro 2012 quarter-finals after a tense final round of matches in Group B.

The Germans, favourites to make the last eight after winning their opening two matches, took the lead in their contest against Denmark with a strike from new Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski.

Michael Krohn-Dehli replied for Denmark with a headed goal on 24 minutes but Germany defender Lars Bender slotted home late on for his first international goal to seal the victory as well as top spot in the group.

Meanwhile in Kharkiv, Portugal reached the quarter-finals thanks to a victory over an out-of-sorts Netherlands side, who crashed out after suffering three defeats.

The Dutch, who needed to defeat Portugal by two clear goals to have any chance of making it through, had the perfect start when Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart curled in a superb left-foot shot on 11 minutes.

But Portugal hit back in style and after creating a host of chances, former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo latched onto an exquisite Joao Pereira through-ball to fire home.

Portugal continued to dominate after the break and after Manchester United winger Nani had a shot from six yards superbly saved by goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, Ronaldo scored his second with a strike into the bottom corner after another incisive counter-attack.

Portugal will now take on the Czech Republic in Warsaw on Thursday in the first quarter-final, while Germany play Greece in Gdansk on Friday.

Below are the final standings in Group B:
