A number of Portsmouth fans have taken to Twitter to praise Spurs loanee Harvey White – despite the League One side’s 4-0 defeat on Saturday.
White made his Pompey debut in their 4-0 win against Wimbledon earlier this week. And he got more minutes at the weekend. Unfortunately for Kenny Jackett’s men, the scoreline was reversed.
As shown by Whoscored.com, he was one of just four Portsmouth players to manage a key pass. No Pompey player managed to have more attempts on goal than the 19-year-old as well.
One of those attempts came with an impressive free-kick. He was fractionally off target as the home side attempted to make the score a little more respectable at Fratton Park.
His performance saw the Tottenham Hotspur youngster receive some praise. But a number of fans were also impressed by White for something that he did after the game.
It was the Spurs loanee who fronted up to the media and gave an interview to BBC Radio Solent after the defeat.
Many respected White doing so given that he was making only his second appearance for the club and had only been on the pitch for the second-half.
The gesture prompted some to criticise the more senior members of the Portsmouth squad. But the fans were certainly impressed by White being the one to step up.
Here is what some of the Pompey fans made of White’s display, and the fact that he was one to conduct the post-match interviews…
fully expect Harvey White to score about 8 free kicks for us btw. Absolute wand of a left foot

Harvey White looks like he’ll be class #Pompey

This might be clutching at straws a bit, but Harvey White’s got some ability from dead balls.
Other than that we have come out second best against a team who will be promoted automatically. Reaction needed Tuesday. #Pompey

Pathetic from our senior players. Putting the new young lad in front of the media after a 4-0 thrashing to take the heat. Naylor should have been stepping up to explain what went wrong.

Fantastic to see a young player come out and take on the press, but surely a senior player at the club should be doing it? https://t.co/svV4X9GPaj

why have they sent him out? he’s been here a week he can’t take responsibility for what happened, should’ve been the captain? https://t.co/fBYJzL0KeN

Fair play Harv, nice to see a young lad take responsibility https://t.co/ODBEKDSsKe

Fair play to Harvey white coming out when he had one of the better performances of those playing in that second half. https://t.co/q1Hx8kIT16
