In pre-season, it looked like Andre Green was set for his breakthrough season with Aston Villa. With the Midlands side unable to make sweeping transfer changes his form in the summer had fans predicting big things for him this campaign.
However, that will not be the case. The 20-year-old winger has joined League One promotion hopefuls Portsmouth on a season-long loan deal.
Aston Villa’s recruitment of Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi left Green looking at a season in the stands and he will now be a regular under Kenny Jackett’s management at Portsmouth.
The fact Aston Villa fans are so disappointed to see him sent out, is a testament to the quality of the player Portsmouth have just brought in.
The winger is incredibly fast, good on both feet and will no doubt terrorise opposing full-backs in League One.
It is no doubt one of the transfer coups of the division this season.
Portsmouth have high hopes of a return to the Championship this season and are currently third in the table after an unbeaten five game start to the campaign. Bringing in a player of Green’s quality could be the difference for Pompey in their hunt for promotion…

Speaking with my cousin whose a massive #AVFC fan, this Andre Green is fast and can only speak of good things, was a regular first teamer last season. Judging by the reaction online also, can only signal positives. Nice one Jackett ?? #Pompey #PUP

Credit to KJ and his team because this has been an exceptional transfer/loan window. From keeping hold of Clarke to Andre Green and everyone in between. Anyone else woke up this morning feeling fine… #Pompey https://t.co/BTXqbumjqU

I genuinely can’t believe we’ve signed Andre Green. If that’s not a statement of intent from us then idk what is #Pompey
