Pontus Jansson’s comments on future likely related to ‘ridiculous’ reporting last summer

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has remained tight-lipped over his future at the club after rumours linking the Swede with Fulham.

Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph recently tweeted that recently relegated Championship rivals Fulham were interested in the Leeds cult hero.

The question was therefore put to Jansson by press in his native Sweden. Jansson, who has not yet returned to Thorp Arch for pre-season training due to international duty, was asked about the Fulham story by Expressen. Jansson’s response was dismissive.

“I have nothing to say.”

TBR’s View

It is certainly out of the ordinary for Jansson to be so non-forthright with the Swedish press. The 28-year-old is often interviewed in his homeland and rarely minces his words. The Leeds star often provides a great soundbite, making him a journalist’s dream.

However, on this occasion he kept quiet. The reason why is quite clear.

Last summer, an interview Jansson conducted in Sweden was poorly translated by the English press. The player himself took to Instagram to clear things up with Leeds fans.

So it would make sense that Jansson now avoids such questions in his native Sweden, knowing that Google translate often lacks the nuance needed to provide clarity to his comments.

Leeds fans will still be confident that Jansson will not be heading to Fulham this summer.
