Pontus Jansson was amongst the promotion rivals to reply to Kalvin Phillips’s Instagram post following Leeds United’s excellent win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have kept themselves in pole position with five games to go. And Phillips played a key role in their 3-1 victory at Ewood Park.
After Patrick Bamford had broken the deadlock early on, it was Phillips who doubled the visitors’ advantage just before the break. And the goal came in some style.
The midfielder curled a delicious free-kick into the top corner. And while Blackburn would hit back with a superb set-piece of their own shortly after the interval, Mateusz Klich would soon ensure that Leeds picked up the three points.
Leeds fans would have been forgiven for being somewhat surprised by Phillips’s strike.
While they would have backed the academy graduate to have such an effort in his locker, the supporters have been left frustrated by Leeds’s struggles to turn set-pieces into goals on many occasions throughout the campaign.
And it appears that it is not just the fans who were taken aback by Phillips’s goal.
The Englishman took to Instagram to celebrate the win following the game. And amongst those to reply was former teammate Jansson, who, of course, is looking to lead his Brentford side into the top two in the home straight of the season.
Phillips responded to Jansson after the centre-back joked about the 24-year-old’s lack of goals in recent times.
Here is Phillips’s Instagram post, followed by the exchange with Jansson…
Jansson was not the only promotion rival to send a message to Phillips. West Brom’s Kyle Edwards and Ivan Cavaleiro of Fulham also responded to his post.
There was also praise from another former teammate, with Luton loanee Izzy Brown lauding the Leeds star…
