Pontus Jansson has posted an emotional Instagram post detailing his sadness at leaving Leeds United in the summer to join Championship rivals Brentford – and plenty of Leeds stars have replied, including captain Liam Cooper.
Jansson, 28, was a crucial part of the Leeds side during Marcelo Bielsa’s first season. However, things seemingly turned sour when he was left out of the Leeds starting eleven for the second play-off leg against Derby – a match Leeds lost.
The Sweden international was subsequently sold in the summer by the Whites to Brentford, for a fee believed to be in the region of £5.5million. Financial Fairplay was also believed to be a reason for his sale.
Former Malmo and Torino defender Jansson posted on Instagram the sadness he felt to leave Elland Road and the disappointment in failing to gain promotion with the Yorkshire side at the end of last season.
Joining the club in the summer of 2016 from Torino – initially on loan – under Garry Monk, Jansson went on to make 120 appearances for Leeds in three years. His warrior-like displays earned him fan-favourite reputation.
He was also liked by his teammates and that is more than clear in the replies to his post. Both Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips responded by telling the colossal defender that they miss him, while Cooper also responded.
