Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Lucas Moura spoke to ESPN Brasil about his exclusion from the 2019 Champions League final.
What’s the story?
Well, it’s over two years since Liverpool recorded a 2-0 win in Madrid, but Lucas was still quizzed on Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to leave him out.
The £80,000-a-week forward said: “(I found out) On the day, on the day of the game, we were leaving the hotel, in that last lecture at the hotel, which was already leaving and going to the stadium.
“I’m a very professional guy, with a very calm mind and at that moment I just wanted to be champion. So, I didn’t have any reaction, nothing to talk to him.”
In our view, it was probably the cruellest moment of the 29-year-old’s career, so we’re not sure why ESPN Brasil brought it all back up.
Nevertheless, the Tottenham No.27’s answer oozed professionalism.
We cannot overstate how much maturity it must’ve took to be able to handle a decision like that, especially after scoring a hat-trick in the semi-final.
Quite clearly, Lucas is a credit to Tottenham, and an exceptional teammate who will support the side no matter what.
Mauricio Pochettino didn’t need to drop Lucas or Harry Kane

Famously, Pochettino opted to start Kane ahead of Lucas, even though the England international wasn’t 100% fit.
In our view, we’re not quite sure why it came down to a straight choice between the pair, as others were more deserving of a place on the bench.
For a start, Christian Eriksen was woeful that season, and his attacking midfield position could’ve gone to Lucas.

Additionally – despite a decent display in Amsterdam – Dele Alli also could’ve faced the axe, following a disappointing season.
Nevertheless, it’s all in the past now, and Lucas deserves huge praise for how he handled the whole situation.
Let’s see what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have been saying about his comments…
