Surprise reports from the Daily Mail over the weekend claimed that Tottenham Hotspur had enquired about Watford captain Troy Deeney as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his striker options.
The Hornets, of course, have been relegated from the Premier League. And the Daily Mail claimed that the 32-year-old is one of those the club are interested in moving on ahead of their return to the Championship.

Interestingly, the Mail reports that Spurs had made an enquiry concerning a potential loan for Deeney. However, it is also suggested that the striker only has one year left on his contract at Vicarage Road, so it remains to be seen if Watford are willing to loan him out.
Deeney has been a decent performer during his time at the highest level. He scored 10 goals this past season. He has scored 47 goals across five seasons in the Premier League, reaching double figures three times.

Nevertheless, it would not be a surprise if some supporters felt underwhelmed by the reports. But perhaps Mourinho’s predecessor may be amongst those who give a potential move their backing.
That is because this weekend is not the first time Deeney has been linked with Spurs.
The Sun reported back in May 2016 that Mauricio Pochettino wanted Deeney at White Hart Lane.
And the report claimed that Pochettino felt that Deeney had the potential to become a cult-hero at Tottenham.
Of course, that report was published more than four years ago. Deeney is now edging towards the twilight of his career.
But Deeney has continued to score goals at the highest level in more recent times. So it will be very interesting to see how he gets on at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should Mourinho get his man this summer.
