Pochettino offers positive update on Eriksen’s future after late winner against Brighton

Mauricio Pochettino says he remains hopeful that Christian Eriksen will commit his future to Tottenham, according to the Telegraph.

At the end of the season, Eriksen will have just one year left on his current deal and the lack of movement on a new one has raised the chances he will leave this summer.

But Pochettino remains optimistic, saying: “It is a very special situation. Christian is a special person. We are all special, different. We need to understand that. The timing for him or for the club to be agreeing something is maybe different to another player.

“I hope and I wish that Christian can be with us in the future. I think Christian and us, we are so open to talk and we will see what happens. It is so close, the end of the season, and [there will be] a lot of time to talk after.”

Eriksen showed once more how important he is to Tottenham last night with a late stunning winner against Brighton and there aren’t many players who combine his industry with quality.

But if his heart is elsewhere, this summer represents Tottenham’s final chance to get any money in with which to secure a replacement.

Pochettino’s optimism is laudable and may be pleasing for Spurs fans but they will want to see movement on a new deal over the summer.
