Sunderland continued their good start to the season yesterday with a 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon. It was not, however, plain sailing. The club, hot off a 4-1 win in midweek, were turgid in the first-half and deserved to be 1-0 down.
But two goals from Lee Cattermole, who could still leave the club before the end of the month, proved to be enough for the win.
Whilst Sunderland fans were obviously very happy with the performance of Cattermole, it was another of their Premier League survivors who stole much of the limelight.
Not for the first time this season, the game changed when Bryan Oviedo took to the field.

Injured in midweek, he replaced Reece James just before the hour. Not only did he strengthen the side defensively, but his attacking threat was also a massive improvement for Sunderland in the second half.
He even made a save, which could have seen him hot water. But the cheeky defender got away with it, much to the joy of the Sunderland fans.
Oviedo has been linked with an exit, owing to his high wages. But the Costa Rican is a consummate professional. Despite the drop to the third-tier he has remained loyal to the club and still puts in 100 per cent whenever he steps on to the field.
Sunderland fans will no doubt hope that Oviedo remains at the club beyond the end of the month. If the Black Cats can keep him for the season, then no doubt they will be pushing for promotion.
