Once again Everton are out of the League Cup. Marco Silva made some changes to his side and it ended up costing him against Southampton at Goodison Park. A 1-1 draw saw Everton head to penalties and Theo Walcott’s miss proved decisive.
Everton boss Silva obviously felt it was time to hand several fringe players their chance to shine. However, the likes of Ademola Lookman, Maarten Stekelenburg and Kieran Dowell will not feel they did that.
The latter, in particular, had a poor evening.

Highly-rated at Everton and with England, the playmaker was given a chance to prove he should be a more used option in the first-team. However, Dowell simply could not find any rhythm to his play.
Considering his style of play, it came off as lazy and disinterested. The performance was poor and the youngster was eventually hauled off for Oumar Niasse.
Everton fans were not forgiving of the 20-year-old’s display. Many believe that, despite his reputation as a top talent, there is no long-term future for Dowell at Everton.
