England played out a thrilling 2-1 win over Croatia this afternoon. After Andrej Kramaric had given Croatia an undeserved lead, England scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to book their place in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.
There were plenty of brilliant performances from England players that helped Gareth Southgate’s side win their group.
However, whilst some received praise for their displays, others were not received so well. One such player was Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier.
The midfield destroyer received rave reviews for his display against Spain last month but this was far from the level expected from the Spurs man.

Dier was poor for much of the game. Often slow in possession, he did not control the game in the way that England fans were expecting.
Some simply cannot figure out why Dier is in England’s starting XI. In fact, for many, he should not even be in the England squad.
He looked far better when tasked simply with defending, as England went all out for the win and perhaps that is his best role, rather than in a defensive midfield partnership.
But for some England fans, Dier should simply not be in the reckoning…
