Aston Villa had a tumultuous day yesterday. Amid heavy rumours linking Thierry Henry with the manager role at Villa Park the new owners finally gave Steve Bruce their backing for next season. They then had to go and play West Ham in a pre-season friendly. They lost, 3-1. But there was a familiar face on the scoresheet for the Hammers, Robert Snodgrass.
The Scottish winger scored West Ham’s third goal of the night and left Aston Villa fans wishing his return to Villa Park.
The Steve Bruce favourite spent last season on loan at Aston Villa. He was a key part of their squad, with 13 assists and eight goals. He was also a leader on and off the pitch and very popular with the fans.

He received a rapturous applause from Aston Villa fans in attendance at Walsall’s Banks Stadium yesterday. The Scottish international also found time to sign many autographs for his former Aston Villa fans.
After the game, Twitter was awash with Villa fans hoping Snodgrass may return.
Such an eventuality seemed impossible under Tony Xia, with the club in a financial meltdown. But since there has been a takeover, perhaps there is a chance of a reunion.
But it seems wishful thinking. Though he won’t be a starter, pre-season has suggested Snodgrass will play a role for West Ham this season.
Aston Villa fans may have to stick to hoping and wishing…
