'Please stay', 'basically our best player': Some Arsenal fans react to what Gunners ace has said

A number of Arsenal fans on Twitter have shown their support for Bernd Leno after the Gunners goalkeeper spoke to Sport1 about his future.

The 29-year-old joined Arsenal in 2018 for a reported £22.5million and has made 115 competitive appearances for the north Londoners.

However, Leno’s future at Arsenal has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks.

According to The Athletic, the Germany international is one of at least five senior Arsenal players who some staff members think may be looking to leave the Emirates this summer.

Leno has now made it clear he doesn’t “want to flee” the club, and although he’s open to a new challenge further down the line, his commitment right now is to Arsenal.

The £100,000-a-week man told Sport1: “I don’t want to flee here, I feel good and want to be successful again with Arsenal!

Arsenal are a big club, which is extremely underestimated in Germany, there are many Arsenal fans all over the world.

“I still have a two-year contract and hope to play in the Champions League again with Arsenal.”

But the goalkeeper has hinted that he would like to experience playing in another league before hanging up his boots.

“It is also clear that at some point in my career I want to do something different.

“So far I’ve played for two clubs. Maybe I’ll get the urge to play in another league again. Maybe in the south. But there is time, I’m still getting to the top goalkeeping age.

“But my focus is on Arsenal FC. ”

Leno’s comments prompted a number of Arsenal fans to praise him on social media and hit back at other Gunners supporters who have criticised him in recent months:
