Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez had a night to forget on Tuesday as his Colombia side suffered a heavy defeat.
The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes for his nation as they were routed 6-1 by Ecuador in their World Cup qualifier in Quito.
Though few Colombian players covered themselves in glory on the night, Sanchez struggled throughout, and should have done better to stop the cross which led to Ecuador’s third.

National outlet El Tiempo gave him a 3 out of 10 rating, writing: “It was expected that, with his return, the defence would regain security, but between his doubts and the lack of a filter, the game ended very badly for him.”
Sanchez has struggled for game time at Spurs recently, with his last Premier League start coming in the 3-3 draw with West Ham United back on 18 October, a game during which he scored an own goal.
Though Jose Mourinho gave him a vote of confidence ahead of the Europa League meeting with LASK, followed by starts in that game as well as the Ludogorets clash, he has since slipped out of the starting line-up.
The international break could’ve potentially given Sanchez a confidence boost had things gone to plan, but sadly this has not been the case, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be considered for the Spurs matchday squad against Manchester City this weekend.
