‘Please make this happen’: Some fans react as ‘magnificent’ West Brom player is linked with their club

West Bromwich Albion striker Charlie Austin is reportedly in talks over a return to Queens Park Rangers – and fans of his former club are loving the speculation.

The 31-year-old arrived at The Hawthorns in the summer of 2019 from Southampton for a reported £4million and helped the Baggies earn promotion to the Premier League with 10 goals and two assists in 34 Championship games.

However, Austin has struggled for game time this term, clocking up just seven competitive senior appearances in all competitions, plus one in the Premier League 2 with the Under-23s.

He has played five times in the league this season, but all of those appearances were off the bench.

According to the Daily Mail, QPR boss Warburton had been in talks with a move for Brighton’s Glenn Murray but has now turned to Austin, with talks between player and club advancing.

The 6ft 2in striker is out of contract at the end of the season and, according to the Express & Star, he’ll be joining QPR on loan, so if the move goes ahead, it’s likely he’s played his final game for the Baggies.

Austin may have done his bit for West Brom last season – former boss Slaven Bilic deemed him “magnificent” – but with his contract up at the end of the season and little game time as it is, perhaps a move would be best.

And given he scored 45 goals in 75 league starts for QPR between 2013 and 2016, plenty of their fans are really hoping the speculation is true and he does return.
