'Please get rid': Some Tottenham fans beg club to ship off 'bang average' player following report

Tottenham are reportedly open to letting Matt Doherty to leave the club this summer.

According to the Sun, the Republic of Ireland defender could depart the north London side in the transfer window.

The 29-year-old right-back was signed by Jose Mourinho last August. However, Doherty has failed to make much of an impression at Spurs. The former Wolves star made 29 appearances in all competitions, but registered just four assists.

As reported by Football London, Tottenham are due a big defensive rebuild this summer. A new centre-back is likely to join in the window, as well as an additional right-back.

Serge Aurier is likely to depart Tottenham this summer. Yet following this update, some supporters on social media are eager for Doherty to leave as well following a poor debut season with the north London side.

As reported by the Guardian, Doherty joined Tottenham for a fee of £14.7m. The Irishman was one of two fullback signings last summer, as Spurs also signed Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid for £32m according to Sky Sports News.

Indeed, as per the report, Joe Rodon could also leave Tottenham this summer. The Welsh youngster impressed at Euro 2020, but the former Swansea City star might leave the north London side on loan for next season.
