‘Playing like 2008 Arshavin’: Some Arsenal fans react to Euro star’s display, Gunners linked
Mislav Orsic was one of the players involved in a Euros epic on Monday between Croatia and Spain – and some Arsenal fans on Twitter were drawn to the performance of Mislav Orsic.
Croatia were beaten 5-3 by Spain in the Round of 16 tie, with the teams separated in extra time.
Spain were on the brink of qualification with a 3-1 advantage going into the final five minutes of the game, but a stunning comeback sent the match into extra time.
Orsic, who came on as a Croatia substitute, pulled a goal back in the 85th minute with a close-range finish. The 28-year-old attacker then assisted an equalising goal in stoppage time because of an accurate cross into the box.
However, the Croatians were eventually beaten and exit Euro 2020.
Arsenal fans would love to sign Orsic
A selection of Arsenal supporters on social media were majorly impressed by Orsic, so it’s intriguing to know he’s been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium in the last few months.
The Times reported in March, as quoted by The Boot Room, that Arsenal have the 28-year-old on their transfer radar.
He’s currently playing for Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, but still has four years left on his contract.
The left-winger is direct, quick and skilful with his movement out wide. In addition, he injected a real creative spark for Croatia yesterday when he came off the bench against Spain.
He finished last season for his club with 24 goals in 51 games across all competitions and performed on the European stage. For instance, he netted a hat-trick against Tottenham in the Europa League.
In conclusion, it’s worth noting that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta does already have a lot of attacking firepower in his squad. But, the club’s fans are greedy for more.
One supporters compared Zagreb’s forward to ex-Arsenal favourite Andrey Arshavin, who scored 31 goals in 145 appearances during his time at the north London club. He said he was like “2008 Arshavin”, which was the year before Arsenal signed him from Zenit Saint Petersburg.
