Reported Arsenal target Victor Osimhen has been urged to seek a move to a “very, very big club” this summer by Nigeria national team manager Gernot Rohr, speaking to Channels TV.
According to French outlet Le Quotidien du Foot, the Lille striker is on the radar of both Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and Spurs counterpart Jose Mourinho, amongst other clubs.
The Super Eagles ace has enjoyed a superb season, claiming 18 goals and six assists in 38 games in all competitions, while his Ligue 1 tally stands at 13 goals and five assists from 27 games.
“Victor Osimhen, I think, will have a very big opportunity to go from Lille, perhaps in the Premier League, to a very, very big club,” said Rohr.
“If we have players playing at a very high level for their clubs, our level at the Super Eagles would grow also.
“(But) if he is signing for a very big club – you have seen the clubs ready to buy him now – he is not so sure to play because there’s big competition for the starting places in the team.
“(Although) it would be better to play in a better club than Lille.”
Osimhen has certainly shown this season that he is a high-calibre player and seemingly destined for a higher level, hence it’s little surprise that he has been linked with the likes of Arsenal.
The Gunners have the impressive Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette on their books but both of their futures are somewhat uncertain.
Osimhen won’t be going cheap – Lille owner Gerard Lopez told the Daily Mail he’s received ‘multiple offers’ for his player and insists it will take a fee close to the £72m Arsenal stumped up for Nicolas Pepe last summer to sign him.
However, if the Gunners do find themselves having to part ways with Aubameyang or Lacazette, then Osimhen would no doubt be a high-calibre, in-demand replacement who’d generate a buzz around the Emirates Stadium.
