PL club pulls plug on potential deadline-day move for Liverpool midfield target - report

Liverpool have been linked with Renato Sanches in recent weeks.

French outlet Onze Mondial claimed in July that the Reds were keen on the Portugal midfielder.

In the same month, Fabrizio Romano claimed Sanches “has always been on the list for Liverpool”.

The Italian journalism also told Anfield Watch that the Lille ace “would love to go back to the Premier League”.

Now, Liverpool may have just been handed a boost in their purported pursuit of Sanches.

On Monday, Wolves reportedly made a bid for the 24-year-old, hoping to land him on loan with a possible option to buy.

But now, The Athletic claims that the Premier League outfit has since pulled the plug on a potential move.

The outlet “understands that Sanches’ problematic injury issues, with the 24-year-old sidelined after undergoing knee surgery two weeks ago, are considered too prohibitive for a deal to go ahead, particularly with Lille looking for a substantial loan fee, plus wages and a sizeable option for Wolves to buy next summer.”

Liverpool eyeing Sanches – the story so far

Sanches burst onto the scene in 2015-16 with Benfica, helping them to a domestic double.

He then made the Portugal squad for Euro 2016 and helped his nation win the tournament.

Sanches moved to Bayern Munich that summer, but his time at the Allianz Arena sadly wasn’t the most fruitful.

While on their books, he also spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Swansea, then in the Premier League.

However, Sanches was far from his best that year and failed to make much of an impact for the Swans.

After three years on Bayern’s books, he became Lille’s record signing, and his career took off once again.

Indeed, Sanches helped Christophe Galtier’s side win their first Ligue 1 title in 10 years last season.
