PL boss now reportedly wants Spurs starlet he tipped to play at the 'very highest level' in 2018
It was claimed over the weekend that Spurs defender Joe Rodon could be offered the chance to leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with The Sun reporting that Brighton boss Graham Potter wants the centre-back.
Rodon had a mixed first season in North London. When he did play, he was often lauded by supporters.
However, he was not able to establish himself as a regular in the side. And he barely featured following Ryan Mason’s arrival.
Of course, Spurs are now under new management. But they may still have to see off interest in him.
It was reported a few days ago that the Seagulls would like to sign Rodon permanently.
Obviously, such a move would see the 23-year-old reunited with Potter, who managed him at Swansea.
And based on comments the Englishman made in 2018, it is not difficult to see why Rodon has remained on his radar.
At the time, Rodon was edging towards the end of his contract with the Swans. But Potter insisted that he would love to keep him, as well as teammate Connor Roberts.
“Joe is a young player who we’re very proud of and is still at the start of his career,” he said, as reported by BBC Sport.
“He’s clever and mature enough to know he’s only played nine matches.”
“He knows he’s in the best place now and in an environment which he likes and suits him.
“We want both of those guys to be top players for Wales and they have the potential to play at the very highest level.”
Hard to see Rodon pushing for Spurs exit, but Potter may have better chance than most to convince him
It is hard to imagine Rodon giving up on making the grade at Tottenham after one season. It is not as though he did much wrong following his switch.
But if there is one Premier League boss who stands a good chance of luring Rodon away, perhaps it may be Potter.
Their relationship will certainly help if the two clubs do start discussing a deal at any stage over the coming weeks.
