Pione Sisto showing what he could offer Tottenham alongside Christian Eriksen

With Christian Eriksen sidelined by an ongoing abdominal issue, both Denmark and Tottenham are looking to fill the gap. One man who stepped up for the nation is Pione Sisto, the Celta Vigo midfielder who could be a ready made option for Mauricio Pochettino.

The 23-year-old has been a rising star in La Liga in recent years and caught the eye with his bright, if inconsistent, displays last season and in the World Cup.

Combining well with Eriksen at international level, it is easy to see why some may point to Sisto as a potential Spurs target.

Young and with room to improve, he offers similar creativity to Eriksen and poses a similar attacking threat, bursting forward and playing killer passes.

Occupying Eriksen’s more central role in his absence for Denmark, Sisto drifted in from the left and was deadly, with his neat backheel in the first half setting up Lukas Lerager to open the scoring against Austria.

If Eriksen’s abdominal injury is to be an ongoing issue as Danish coach Age Hareide suggested, despite his agent’s denials, having an option like Sisto in the squad could be of real value for Tottenham.
