This summer saw Tottenham Hotspur pursue the signature of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with serious persistence.

Eventually, Spurs and Jose Mourinho got their man, signing the Danish international in a deal worth a reported (Sky Sports) £15 million, beating off competition from Everton for his signature.

It was a move that had many scratching their heads.

Whilst Hojbjerg had always been a solid performer for Southampton the former Saints captain never truly stood out as a game-changing player.

However, the bold decision from Jose Mourinho has so far been proven right and a recent statistic showcases just how impressive Hojbjerg has been in the Premier League so far this season.

These days, with the way teams play out from the back, it is usually a centre-back that dominates the ‘most passes’ category but the fact that Tottenham’s all-action midfielder holds the accolade is a testament to the influence he has on this team.

Many people felt that Hojbjerg was simply not the sort of transfer that Tottenham needed at this time but the Dane has so far proved to be an inspired piece of business from the North London club.

Tottenham fans will just hope that continues to be the case throughout the campaign.
