'Responding well': Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg thinks Tottenham have signed one top player this summer
Tottenham lost out to Roma in their final pre-season friendly last night and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been talking about the upcoming season following the game.
Jose Mourinho got one over on his former club as a Roger Ibanez header proved enough for a 1-0 win. Of course, the result matters little and for Spurs, it will all be about next weekend’s big kick off against Southampton.
Tottenham go into the new season feeling good and having spent over £100m on new players, there is expectation on Antonio Conte. And speaking about those new signings last night, midfield stalwart Hojbjerg insists all the new arrivals are impressing.
“I think it’s a good player that the club has taken (Yves Bissouma). Same with regards to the other players. Everyone is responding well, the coach is demanding a lot, and everyone is taking the information on board,” Hojbjerg said after last night’s game with Roma.
“Everyone is responding well and trying to create their own personality in that system, so yeah, which is good and positive and something that the team will benefit from. Overall, the players that have arrived, I think they’re all really good players, and it’s important with the competition.”
Last night saw Hojbjerg partnered in midfield by Bissouma for the first time. The XI selected looked very much like an XI Conte could select against Southampton.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Signings Have Big Part To Play
It’s a mixed bag for Spurs this summer when it comes to their new signings. They’ve landed proven Premier League players in Richarlison and Bissouma, while Forster’s experience will also help.
The signing of Ivan Perisic should be a hit, while Clement Lenglet showed bits of his talent last night as well. Finally, Djed Spence will hope he can have an impact as well having signed from Middlesbrough.
Ultimately, all the new Tottenham players will play their part. It’s a long season, with cups and Europe, and at some point, Conte will need them all.
