Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been backed to succeed under Jose Mourinho by his former manager for Denmark, Age Hareide.
The midfielder completed a move to Spurs this summer after an outstanding campaign with Southampton last season saw him earn rave reviews from pundits and fans alike.
Hojbjerg is expected to go straight into Mourinho’s midfield following the move. And his former manager Hareide has admitted that he is not at all surprised to see the Danish star succeed in England. (quotes from the Express)
“I reckon that Mourinho intends to use him when he has invested in him. He is a robust player. He’s good with the ball. He has been very good in Southampton and was captain of the team there – that says it all.
“He is good and I think he learns all the time. Pierre-Emile was very young when he started in the Bundesliga, but he has learned all the way and was very central to Southampton’s team. He is probably an upcoming type of leader but is still a relatively young man.”
The glowing praise will boost Spurs fans, some of whom are still concerned that the club hasn’t quite addressed some of the issues within the squad from last season.
Among them, is a potential back up for Harry Kane. However, the club is said to be keen on making a move for Arkaduriz Milik, according to the Express.
Hojbjerg will be fine at Spurs, he’s a shrewd signing – TBR View
The signing of the Dane should prove to be a shrewd move by Spurs, who have failed in recent years to replace the mercurial talents and presence of Moussa Dembele.
Along with Gio Lo Celso, Spurs now have a double act in midfield capable on the ball but also capable of digging in and scrapping when needed.
Hopefully, as his former boss points out, Hojbjerg can continue to grow and develop into a fine Tottenham playe for years to come.
