Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been discussing his recent transfer links to Tottenham Hotspur with the press in his Danish homeland.

It was reported in January that the Saints star was on Tottenham’s radar as a potential midfield recruit in the summer. Sky Sports suggested that the North London club were preparing a potential £35 million offer for the 24-year-old who has been in fine form at St Mary’s this season.

The player later switched agents to Pini Zahavi, fuelling the rumours due to his close links with both Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho.

Speaking to Viaplay, as relayed by Danish publication B.T, he admitted he was flattered by the talk and that former Tottenham player Christian Eriksen has only good words to say about the club.

“It would be a lie to say I hadn’t read it. It’s a big club and I also think Christian Eriksen has positive memories from there.

“The most important thing is that I concentrate on Southampton and concentrate on that when the season starts again, I can continue where I left off. I wouldn’t mind knocking a few goals in.

“Whatever happens in the future, you have to take it as it comes.”

Eriksen, an international team-mates of Hojbjerg, has seemingly not been bad-mouthing Tottenham elsewhere, despite what became quite a protracted £17 million transfer to Inter Milan for the former Spurs playmaker.

Which is good news, especially if Tottenham are indeed hoping to convince his compatriot into a switch from the South Coast.
