Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been describing the element of luck that has helped him become a star for his hometown club.
The right-back has been one of the season’s standout performers and at just 21-years-old, is among the best players in world football at this moment.
A product of the Liverpool youth system, Alexander-Arnold has been speaking to RedBull.com this week about the early stages of his development as a footballer.
The England star admitted that getting the chance to even try out for Liverpool simply came down to the luck of the draw.
“Liverpool were doing a half-term training camp for my age and my school got about six or seven invites
“Luckily they were for my age group and my class specifically. The teacher said, ‘Well, who wants to go? And obviously every single lad in the classroom put their hand up, so the only fair way was to pick names out of a hat, and luckily my name came out.”
Of course, considering Alexander-Arnold’s immense talent, there is no chance he would not have eventually ended up on Liverpool’s radar eventually.
But the path he is on now was so delicately poised on the drawing of names from a hat and Liverpool fans have a lot to thank that teacher for.

Who knows? Had he not ended up on that trial, he might have caught the eye of Liverpool’s city rivals Everton and be spearheading an entirely different renaissance under Carlo Ancelotti right now.
Liverpool fans will just be glad their world-class full-back got picked.
