Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies will have fuelled Spurs fans with optimism, by posting pictures on Instagram alongside Spurs icon Gareth Bale.
Bale, 29, may look to leave Madrid in the summer after the Spanish giants reappointed Zinedine Zidane as manager. Zidane and Bale did not get on in the Frenchman’s last spell in charge, and was benched more often than not.
The Welshman seems unsettled. He has been seen angrily celebrating goals and being substituted, while his agent Jonathan Barnett has criticised fans for their treatment of the ex-Tottenham star.
It has seen Spurs fans become hopeful of a return to north London for Bale. Davies will have encouraged such excitement among the Tottenham fanbase by posting two pictures with Bale on Instagram.
Bale did start Zidane’s first game in his second spell. He scored Real’s second in a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo after Isco had put Real in the lead. Despite a weak first touch, Bale swept the ball home with his right foot from 16 yards.
TBR’s view
Bale would be an unreal signing for Tottenham. With doubts over the future of Christian Eriksen, he would more than soften the blow with a return to Spurs.
There are obstacles. Bale’s enormous wages are the main stumbling block, and he will only engineer a move if he reduces his asking price. It remains to be seen, with Zidane appointed, if Bale wants to stay.
Spurs need a player like Bale, but the chances of Levy splashing out a transfer fee and a huge signing on fee is unlikely.
