21-year-old midfielder Kyle Scott has been a free agent throughout this summer having ended his 12-year spell at Chelsea.

And he has been linked with a move to Newcastle this month, with the Northern Echo saying he’s been a target for the club since Rafa Benitez was in charge.

It looks as if Steve Bruce is about to see the midfielder join his squad as a photo was posted on Twitter of Scott at St James’ Park amid all the talk of a move.

Newcastle are finally cracking on with transfer business following Bruce’s appointment, with Scott’s mooted arriving coming hot on the heels of the record signing of Joelinton.

Scott’s arrival may not get too many pulses racing but in a summer where Newcastle have seen their squad size shrink, there’s something to be said for bringing in a young, English talent for nothing.

The fact that he was a target under Benitez may create reassurance that there’s a degree of planning behind the move and after the way Sean Longstaff broke onto the scene last season, Scott will be hoping to do the same.

He has represented England, Ireland and the United States at various youth levels and comes from Chelsea’s highly-rated academy, which has scooped many honours in recent seasons.
