Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min and South Korea will be looking ahead to a World Cup last-16 tie with the winner of Group G.

The Spurs and South Korea icon helped his nation secure a dramatic 2-1 win over Portugal in their last Group H game.

Son provided the assist for Hwang Hee-chan to slot home from inside the box in injury time.

South Korea looked down and out as their energy levels dropped late on in the match.

However, that late counter-attack ensured that the Taeguk Warriors pipped Uruguay to second place on goals scored.

Son and his teammates then endured a tense wait as Uruguay’s match with Ghana entered its latter stage.

And when the full-time whistle blew on that game, South Korea were finally able to celebrate.

Son appeared overcome with emotion as his nation edged into the knockout stages of the competition.

South Korea drew 0-0 with Uruguay in their opening match at Qatar.

They then lost 3-2 to Ghana to leave them with just one point from their opening two matches.

The pressure was on in the meeting with Portugal, who had won their first two games.

And things didn’t go to plan as Ricardo Horta opened the scoring after just five minutes.

South Korea did equalise midway through the second half through Kim Young-gwon.

However, as the game went on, it looked as though it couldn’t happen for Son and his teammates.

Except it’s not over until it’s over – and South Korea’s late goal means their World Cup journey continues.

Who could Son and South Korea play in World Cup last 16?

South Korea face the Group G winners on Monday 5 December at Doha’s Stadium 974, 7pm GMT.

They will play either Brazil or Switzerland.

Brazil currently top Group G on six points from two games.

Switzerland are second on three points and are the only other team that can finish first.

Cameroon and Serbia cannot finish higher than second.

Second-placed Switzerland, who are on three points, must beat Serbia to guarantee their progress.

Meanwhile, a point would be enough if Cameroon fail to beat Brazil.

Serbia and Cameroon both need to win their respective games to keep alive their qualification hopes.
