Tottenham Hotspur are in action on New Year’s Day, hosting Aston Villa in a 2pm kickoff in North London.
Spurs will hope to get back to winning ways after playing out a disappointing 2-2 draw with Brentford last time out.
Meanwhile, the Villans also failed to win their last game of 2022 as they lost 3-1 to Liverpool on Boxing Day.
Antonio Conte has been putting his players through their paces in training, with Spurs sharing photos of their latest session on Friday.
Several youth players took part in training, including Under-21 midfielder Max Robson.
The 20-year-old is in his second season with the U21s, and has made 11 appearances at age level this term.
Tottenham’s official website has described Robson as a ‘productive attacking midfielder’.
Superhotspur wrote about the talented playmaker back in January and sung his praises.
“The player, who can also play up-front as a false-nine, or in central-midfield and out wide, is a player who loves to take players on for skill,” they wrote.
“Always looking to play the ball forward and be creative in possession, Robson’s off the ball pressing and overall work is consistently very good.”
They continued: “A versatile but very talented and determined player on the pitch, Robson is fearless on the ball.
“But it’s his ability to get into really good pockets of space, which makes him so potent inside the penalty area.
“He also has very good reactions and can dribble with the ball at a good pace, as well.
“I’m a big fan of the CAM. And while he clearly has a tremendous work ethic on the pitch, his quality with the ball is excellent, and he’s a real joy to watch on the pitch.”
It’s great to see Conte give Tottenham’s academy talents the opportunity to impress in, and learn from, first-team training sessions.
Robson is yet to make his senior Spurs debut. But while Tottenham have quite a few central midfielders, they haven’t got much in terms of No. 10 options.
With that in mind, perhaps Conte could look to give Robson a chance in the FA Cup. Tottenham face Portsmouth in the third round on 7 January.
The likelihood is Robson’s short to mid-term future will feature a loan move to gain first-team experience. But if he does well, then it’d be great to see him in the Spurs squad in the coming years.
